Leinster Driving

On Monday 13th of April our class went to the Leinster Driving Campus. Our class was split into two groups when we got there. In the morning our group did the theory test while the other group was driving. We also did a lil challenge thing where we had to wear beer goggles and do simple tasks like high-fiving and picking up things and that was pretty funny. After our break the two groups swapped so we were going to be driving. I was kinda nervous but excited. There were three of us in each car along with our instructor. Eve went first so the instructor briefly showed her what to do and explained how a few things work.

By the time it was my turn I wasn't really nervous anymore and I had been listening to the woman instruct Eve and Ellen, so I kind of had an idea of what to do. At the beginning I thought it was quite confusing but after a few minutes I kinda got the hang of it...kinda. I thought it was really fun and it makes me want to learn to drive as soon as I can.

Lots of things

On Friday 27th February our year took part in Lollipop Day. We all got a bus into town to sell lollipops in aid of Esophageal Cancer. A few of us decided we wanted to busk while selling the lollipops so two girls brought their guitars and we sang a few different songs throughout the day. A lot of people from our year ended up joining in as well and it was actually really fun.

The next day, Saturday 28th February was the Briery Gap final. In our class there were two groups that entered the drama competition (which was on the 27th January) and luckily both of the groups got through to the Briery Gap final. The final was in Cork which takes around 4 hours to get to. On a stuffy bus. Fun. Our group performed really well on the day and about a week or two later we received news that we had won an adjudicators award.

The 6th of March was the Scifest competition. I did my project with Lauren and the title was 'Do dogs have a preferred paw?'. Our results concluded that male dogs are more likely to be left pawed while female dogs are more likely to be right pawed. We were not expecting to get through at all but we ended up coming second which was a massive shock. I wasn't there when the results were announced but I would honestly pay money to see Lauren's reaction when she found out we got through.

Scifest
I wasnt there for the Scifest results because I was at a school choir competition in Wesley College. The piece our choir performed was 'Rule the World' by Take That. I was accompanying the choir on piano and I thought they sounded great on the day. We didn't win or anything but we got 85 marks out of 100 which is pretty good.

On Monday 9th March we had a percussion workshop for the whole day. We learned how to play the djembe drum and we learnt a lot of different rhythms that we could layer to create different songs. I thought this work shop was really good and it was my favourite workshop we've had this year.

Djembe Drum
On Tuesday 10th March TYs went to the cinema to see 'Selma'. I wasn't able to go because I had a singing exam. My exam went well and now I'm just waiting for my results. Later on that day we went to Peter Pan on Ice. When the TYs went to Elf in December me and three other girls were asked to go on the radio after the show just to say what we thought of it. 2fm then gave us tickets to go and see Peter Pan on ice. For some reason I was expecting there to be dialogue even though it was on ice. There wasn't. It was still really good and so entertaining to watch the ice skaters do all the fancy stuff but it was just so different to what I expected.

Peter Pan on Ice
We started our third work experience placement and I'm doing mine in an all girls primary school in Maynooth. Its better than I thought but its kinda stressful. I'm in the 'aistear' room for the whole day which is where the girls come class after class to play. Only Juniors and Seniors go to aistear so I'm with them all day. I kinda wish I could do something different with slightly older kids because it takes a lot of energy talking 5 year olds all day and having to act like you think their empty tissue box with lollipop sticks stuck to it does really look like a hedgehog.

Today the Tys that do French are going to Salesians to do 'speed chatting'. Thanks to whoever came up with that idea. That's all I have to say.

School and stuff

It's the first week back after the Christmas holidays and I can't say I'm all that excited to be back. I'm sure It'll get better but right now I just wanna go home.  It's only my third day in school this week and I already need the weekend.

This week was the first week of our second work experience placement. I am going to Allure Beauty Salon in Maynooth. This week I cleaned, answered the phone (which I literally hate so much) and I watched my supervisor do some peoples nails. After my lunch break she said she wanted the other girl on work experience and I to do each other’s nails. The other girl had gel nails on so I didn't get to do her nails. She did my nails and she did a fab job. This work experience placement is so much better than my last one it’s actually so irritating to know that I went into that hospital for ten weeks when I could've done something that I actually had an interest in.

On Thursday we went to the RDS for the Young Scientist Exhibition. It was good but I think we were there for too long and I don't think we needed to go for the whole day. I was so tired by the end of the day and I'm pretty sure I fell asleep on the bus on the way back.

This week has been kind of stressful because over Christmas I forgot how many projects we have in TY and now that I'm back I'm slowly realising how much stuff I have to do.

Fashion and Photos

Next Tuesday and Wednesday our school is hosting a Fashion Show in a hotel. Students from our school are modelling, and the clothes are being provided by Liffey Valley, Manor Mills and Naas.
There is going to be a lot of entertainment throughout the Fashion Show including ballerinas, Irish dancers, the glee club and the choir.

I decided to take part in the choir for the Fashion Show and we are doing a medley of Christmas songs. I am also apart of a small TY performance that will be performed at the Fashion Show. We are doing a medley of Bastille songs including Laura Palmer, Rhythm of the night and Pompeii.
I am really excited for the fashion show and although I'm not nervous now, I know I will be on the night of it.

Hallo-Why

Today is our annual Halloween dress up day! Each year is given a different theme and this year TYs are zombies.

Not everyone dressed up and I usually don't but this year I decided I'd do some Zombie make-up. I took inspiration from this video I watched on YouTube.

Derbs is Wednesday Addams and she looks super fab. Here is a cute pic of us. Shoutout to Alison cause she's cool.

Work Experience Week 2!

On Wednesday we had our second day of Work Experience. I have been going to a hospital, The Hermitage Medical Clinic, for my work experience. So far I have been helping out in the Medical Records Department. This is where everyone's medical records are filed away, organised etc.

On Wednesday I started out by making up some operation notes. Operation notes consist of four different sheets that need to be put together in the right order, so that they are ready to go into peoples charts. Charts are a persons individual book of their medical records. Everyone who has medical history in The Hermitage has a chart of their own.

After I had a short break I was shown how to sign out the charts that weren't going to be needed any time soon. Once I had gotten the hang of it I then signed out a lot of charts by myself. I was then given a few jobs of retrieving charts from the store room and taking charts up to different departments.

After my lunch break I was given a bundle of medical letters from different doctors about different patients. My job was to find the patients M number and H number on the computer using MediTech. The M number is their medical number and it is the number that is on their chart. The H number is the number that corresponds to the appointment the letter was written about.

Overall I thought the day was quite boring at times, and I would really like to do something other than Medical Records.

My Digital Dossier

Your Digital Dossier or Digital Footprints is the accumulation of all the digital tracks you leave behind.

I have just finished watching the video about digital footprints and I have to say I am very surprised!
It made me think about how much information about my life was on the internet and if not on the internet, how much of my information was in digital form!

Source

Before I watched the video I thought it would just be about social media accounts like Facebook, twitter etc, but I was very wrong! I was informed that my digital footprints had begun before I was born! From my moms ultrasound to the last order I placed on amazon- everything I do with technology is a part of my digital dossier.

The internet helps us to connect to millions of people around the world and as we do, our digital footprints are growing. From something as simple as following someone on instagram or retweeting a tweet, we are adding to our digital dossiers. Your dossier however is far from just being about what you do on the internet. It is also added to by security cameras, hospital records and even just by taking a picture.
